DSEIGNER SERIES | Solid 14K Gold
I didn't start working with solid gold for a long time, probably not until 2020. That was the year I decided to learn more about manipulating solid gold, at the same time, I decided to incorporate small portions of it into my production pieces along with custom commissions. It was a journey where I realized how much I loved working with the precious metal and how it elevates the jewelry.
Solid 14K gold, preferably yellow gold, is my favorite karat gold to work with... Although, I have considered the 18K gold option for several reasons, but I also love how the warm glow of 14K gold shimmers. 18K and 22K have a much higher gold content present, which gives them both more of a brighter, yellow gold finish; but also, can lean a bit softer than 14K gold.
Working with gold is like working with butter and when it polishes up, it's brilliant just shines through so gloriously, it's hard not to want to work with it more. I love how gemstones look when set in 14K gold, too. This is why I only set tiny calibrated faceted stones in solid gold settings. You don't have to worry about the precious metal setting tarnishing around the gemstone.
Now, there is also 10K gold... My very first piece of jewelry I ever bought for myself when I was 27 years old was a 10K gold ring. I was told 10K would be better for an everyday ring because it's a harder metal compared to 14K gold and of course, it was more affordable for me to buy. The feeling of being able to buy a piece of gold jewelry for the first time in my younger adult life felt so good. I walked out of the jewelry store glowing in excitement. I wore that ring forever!
